About the role
Staff engineers at HeroApply shape how we build. You will lead the design of systems that span teams, raise the bar for engineering quality across the organisation, and mentor the senior engineers who lead each team.
This is a hands-on leadership role: you write code, you review architecture, and you are accountable for outcomes that matter to the whole company.
What you will do
- Lead the technical design of systems that span multiple teams.
- Set and uphold engineering standards for quality, reliability and security.
- Mentor senior engineers and grow technical leadership across the organisation.
- Partner with product and engineering leadership on strategy and priorities.
- Stay hands-on: prototype, build and review where it matters most.
What you bring
- Extensive experience as a senior or staff engineer on production systems at scale.
- A track record of leading cross-team technical initiatives to completion.
- Exceptional judgement about architecture, trade-offs and risk.
- Strong mentorship and communication skills.
- Humility, curiosity and a focus on outcomes over ego.
Nice to have
- Experience in a consumer platform company.
- Public speaking, writing or open-source leadership.
- Prior experience scaling an engineering organisation.
